"IA" studies vocal features to detect high blood pressure

Researchers at Klick Labs have made an innovative breakthrough in health monitoring. They have developed a new, non-invasive technique that predicts high blood pressure (hypertension) using only a person's voice.

This method, with the help of artificial intelligence, offers an exciting glimpse into the future of early detection of hypertension. By leveraging vocal biomarkers, Klick Labs aims to improve health outcomes with a tool that is as accessible as it is effective.

The study involved 245 participants who recorded their voices up to six times a day for two weeks. They used a mobile app created by Klick Labs that analyzes these voice recordings to detect high blood pressure.

The app's algorithms examine subtle vocal features, such as pitch variability and speech energy patterns, to predict hypertension with remarkable accuracy. For women, the app reached 84 percent accuracy, while for men it reached 77 percent.

Hypertension, often called the "silent killer" by the World Health Organization (WHO), affects over 25 percent of the global population. Unfortunately, many are unaware of their condition and most of those diagnosed live in low- or middle-income countries. Traditional methods of voltage measurement, such as using a handheld device or automatic devices, can be expensive and require technical expertise.

While new technology presents a promising solution. It offers a way to control hypertension that is easier and more accessible than traditional methods.

This study marks Klick Labs' first major step in using voice technology for health conditions beyond diabetes. Their previous research showed that voice analysis, combined with artificial intelligence, could effectively control type 2 diabetes. In addition, a recent study in Scientific Reports confirmed the link between blood glucose levels and voice pitch .
