An unpleasant event happened to an Italian couple at the end of this year.

The man had hidden his savings of 20,000 euros in the fireplace, as he thought it was a "safe vault". But all turned to ashes when his wife decided to light the fire despite the mild temperatures these days in Rome , Italy.

"My wife didn't know that I hid it there. Every year before lighting the fire, I move the money. Now when I saw the flames, I lost my mind ," said the man.

He did not wait for the fireplace to be lit for several days. The man, who lives on via dei Quattro Venti in Rome's Monteverde district, said leaving money in the chimney is nothing new to him.

“I thought it was a safe place, where thieves would never have gone to search. My wife didn't know I hid them there. Every year, before I light the fire, I move them around."

But the woman decided to create a celebratory atmosphere, but in fact, the atmosphere was not at all pleasant.
