A lion that escaped from the circus in a small town not far from Rome and wandered the streets for hours until it was caught.
The alert lasted for hours, from the escape on Saturday from 16:00 to 21:00 when the animal was surrounded by veterinarians and managed to escape, until it was finally caught.
"All his life he dreamed of returning to the savanna and had to settle in Ladipoli, an hour away from Rome. But at least there is a sea there", writes La Repubblica about the lion that created chaos in a small town not far from Rome.
The escape to freedom of the elderly lion who escaped from the circus for six hours kept everyone in suspense: residents trapped in their homes, police forces under siege and animal rights activists.

The owners of the circus from which the animal escaped claim that they are actually victims of sabotage.
"We found the cage open and someone saw three people running away on foot," they said.
It is not yet known what happened on Saturday afternoon. The Ladipoli police will send information to the Civitavecchia prosecutor's office and the circus managers risk a lawsuit for not controlling the animal.
