New Popular Front (NFP) leader Jean-Luc Melenchon says his party is "ready to govern" after polls show his leftist coalition ended up with the most seats in France's snap election.
The NFP is expected to take from 172-205 seats and will have to form a minority government in the National Assembly, with 289 seats needed for an absolute majority.
"The New Popular Front is ready to govern," Melenchon said.
"And ultimately, it's the only alternative that has a very organized program and a very detailed program.
The left-wing elements are united and have shown that they have been able to cope with this extraordinary historical situation. Once again the Republic saved, we saved the Republic," he added.
