Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Russia of trying to hold a false referendum on independence in the occupied Kherson and Zaporizhia regions in the south of the country.

In a video message, Zelensky urged residents of the occupied territories not to provide any personal information, such as passport numbers, that Russian forces may request.

"It's not just a registration issue. It is not to give you any kind of humanitarian aid. "It is, in fact, a matter of falsifying a so-called referendum on your land, if the order to organize this comedy comes from Moscow," the Ukrainian president warned.
