Washington Post: Trump aims to deport 1 million immigrants in a year
US President Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump plans to deport one million immigrants by 2025.

According to a report by the Washington Post, citing federal sources familiar with the White House's plans, this target would represent a dramatic increase over previous deportation levels. The current record is held by the Barack Obama administration, when about 400,000 immigrants were deported in a single year.

Trump and his team aim to complete this ambitious plan in the first year of his second term, as he promised during the presidential election campaign. His close adviser, Stephen Miller, is working daily with officials from the Department of Homeland Security and other agencies to prepare the legal and logistical infrastructure necessary for this vast operation.

Part of the strategy also includes transferring them to countries that are not the migrants' countries of origin. According to the Washington Post, these countries include Libya, Rwanda, Benin, Moldova, Mongolia and Kosovo. The aim of these agreements is to accept deported migrants who are not necessarily citizens of these countries, a practice that has raised serious legal and ethical concerns.

Despite these plans, analysts remain skeptical. They point out that such a lofty goal is practically unattainable due to a lack of staff, funding and legal obstacles. Most immigrants are entitled to a court hearing before deportation, which slows down and complicates the process.
