The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, has said that he hopes that the United States will decide that the NATO mission in Kosovo, KFOR, and the European Union mission for the rule of law, EULEX, will carry out police work in the north of Kosovo. , after the decision of the Serbs to leave all the institutions of this country.

"I think something like this will contribute to peace. If the Americans think that the Albanians can do this work, and something like this is not in accordance with the Brussels agreement and the will of the people, I am afraid that this situation could lead to a disaster".

The President of Serbia has also said that he hopes that NATO will prevent any possible decision by Kosovo to send special units to the north.

"I hope that NATO will have enough wisdom to prevent this," said Vucic. He said on Sunday that it is important for Serbia to behave "seriously and responsibly".

"We are talking about major political tectonic changes. After 10 years, the Serbs have decided to leave the institutions of Pristina", said Vucic for Pink Television. Vučić also said that the assumptions that the Serbs are acting on Belgrade's orders "are meaningless".

On November 5, the representatives of the Serbs resigned from the local municipalities in the north of Kosovo, from the judiciary, the police as well as from the Government and Assembly of Kosovo.

The warnings of the Serbian List - the largest party of Kosovo Serbs - to leave the institutions of Kosovo have come after the decision of the Kosovo authorities to suspend the director of the Kosovo Police for the northern region, Nenad Gjuriq, who has refused to implement the decision of the Government of Kosovo for the re-registration of cars that have license plates issued by Serbia in RKS - Republic of Kosovo.

Vucic said that the Kosovo authorities have applied the "worst possible option" when it comes to license plates. "First he scolds us and then he humiliates us. Then it says we will punish you financially. Then he will confiscate the license plates and the cars."

The President of Serbia has said that the Serbs will not return to the institutions of Kosovo until the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority is formed. Kosovo and Serbia have reached agreement on the Association in 2013 and then in 2015 on the principles for its establishment.

In 2015, the Constitutional Court of Kosovo found that the agreement is not in full harmony with the Constitution. Serbia demands that Kosovo implement the agreements reached, but the Government of Kosovo has declared against a mono-ethnic association.

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has called on the Serbs not to abandon the institutions of Kosovo, as in this way they weaken the services for the citizens. According to him, through the decision of the Serbian List, official Belgrade wants to destabilize the situation in Kosovo, but Kurti said that Serbia "will not succeed in this way".

Unlike Kosovo, Serbia has supported the decision of the Serbian List. The United States and the European Union have called on Kosovo and Serbia to refrain from any unilateral action that could increase tensions.

On November 6, Lista Serbe organized a protest in North Mitrovica, to oppose the decision of the Government of Kosovo on license plates.

Since November 1, the Government of Kosovo has started to implement its plan - in three phases - for the re-registration of cars with license plates issued by Serbia.

The first phase involves reprimanding the drivers, the second involves a fine of up to 150 euros for those drivers, and the third a probationary license plate. The implementation of this plan is expected to end on April 21 and, from that date, only cars with RKS license plates will be allowed in circulation.

It is believed that there are about 10,000 cars with Serbian license plates in Kosovo. The United States and the European Union have expressed disappointment as to why the Government of Kosovo has not acted in accordance with their request for a 12-month postponement of the license plate decision.

Kosovo and Serbia have started negotiations for the normalization of relations in 2011, with the mediation of the European Union. The negotiation process is expected to end with legally binding agreements.

Although Kosovo declares that this agreement should include mutual recognition, Serbia does not accept, insisting on a "compromise solution"./ REL
