The Museum of Islamic Art in Qatar will reopen its doors to the public after 18 months of closure due to the reconstruction it underwent.
The news comes just before Qatar hosts the World Cup later this year, with the tournament expected to bring more than a million fans to the country.
The director of the museum, Julia Gonnella, spoke to the Reuters news agency at a media event the day before the official reopening.
"The Museum of Islamic Art is one of the most amazing and beautiful museums in the world, even before the reopening, I must say, it has a wonderful architecture, which stands between the old Doha and the new Doha and connects the past with it now".
But why should this museum be visited?
"I think this is the ideal place to show the Islamic world from a perspective other than jihad and martyrs and war and problems, you see, because the Islamic world is very big and beautiful, it has an amazing history, and I think we now have the opportunity to show all this".
Qatar has a population of 2.8 million of which 380,000 are Qatari nationals and is expecting an unprecedented influx of 1.2 million visitors later this year during the World Cup.
