Houthi rebels in Yemen said their Chief of Staff Muhammad Abd Al-Karim al-Ghamari, one of the Iran-backed group's top military officials, was killed "while carrying out his duties."

Without directly blaming Israel for his killing, the Houthis said the conflict with Israel is not over. Israel will "receive its preventive punishment for the crimes it has committed."

In August, Israel targeted the Houthi group's chief of staff, defense minister, and other senior figures in airstrikes in Sanaa, Yemen, which killed the prime minister of Yemen's Houthi-led government and several other ministers.

Israel said at the time that the airstrike targeted al-Ghamari, the defense minister and other senior officials and that it was verifying the result.

Ghamari was a member of the Houthi rebels' "Jihad Office," led by Abdul Malik al-Houthi, which is responsible for overseeing military operations.
