Ukraine is receiving almost universal credit for profoundly transforming the way we fight today, to the point that its model is even being endorsed by an alliance like NATO.
In an interview with the Greek newspaper " Kathimerini ", the head of the Supreme Allied Command Transformation , Admiral Perre Vandier, states that the moment the war in Ukraine came found the West without a concept of strategic depth and with an alliance like NATO modeled for short wars that typically occurred after the Cold War.
"In order to survive, Ukraine had to invent a new way of waging war. And it has been successful in doing so."
There is a widespread use of robotics and Artificial Intelligence, which makes them very important and helps them achieve high levels of destruction while conserving personnel.
In the last two years they have made dramatic improvements in these aspects and we see them as part of the future…
"We have also seen in Ukraine that even industry can change," the admiral said.
The rapid development of technology and the speed of its deployment as part of the armament has devalued conventional capabilities. For example, in today's conditions and especially after the conflict in Iran, it has proven ineffective to insist on heavy systems despite means such as drones.
All of this has also had an effect on psychological transformation. For example, with the possibilities created by new tools, the concept of a frontal war no longer holds, while the conflict is being consumed.
It is precisely this new nature of war, which manifests itself without firepower in everyday life, that imposes the need for what the admiral calls a " whole-of-society approach ."
