US President Donald Trump's two officials who brokered the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas - special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner - shared details about the agreement on CBS News' 60 Minutes ahead of Sunday's episode.
Speaking about Israel's attack on Qatar in September, Witkoff said both he and Kushner "felt a little betrayed."
According to Kushner, Trump believed that "the Israelis were getting a little out of control" and that " it was time to stop them from doing things that were not in their long-term interest."
Witkoff referred to Israel's strikes on Hamas' leadership in Qatar, carried out while talks were underway to release hostages and reach a ceasefire.
Witkoff added that these attacks "had a ripple effect," damaging the trust of regional mediators.
"We had lost the trust of the Katariots. So Hamas went underground and it was very, very difficult to reach them," he said.
Regarding Qatar's mediation with Hamas, Witkoff said that after the attacks, "it became very clear how important this was."
