European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has expressed concern over the US decision to impose tariffs on EU automobile exports.
She said tariffs are bad taxes for businesses and for consumers, in the US and the EU.
"I deeply regret the US decision to impose tariffs on EU car exports. Tariffs are taxes – bad for businesses, worse for consumers, in the US and the EU. The EU will continue to seek negotiated solutions, while preserving its economic interests," she said.
US President Donald Trump has announced new import taxes of 25% on cars and car parts coming into the US.
The president claimed the move would lead to "tremendous growth" for the auto industry, promising it would boost jobs and investment in the US.
