US President Donald Trump has threatened to increase tariffs on China by an additional 50% from April 9 if they do not withdraw the 34% tariffs imposed by Tuesday.

Trump also said that "all talks with China regarding the requested meetings will be terminated."

"Yesterday, China issued 34% Retaliatory Tariffs, on top of their already record Tariffs, non-monetary tariffs, illegal corporate subsidization, and massive long-term currency manipulation, despite my warning that any country that retaliates against the US by issuing additional long-term tariffs will already be abusing our longer-term tariffs. New and significantly higher tariffs, over and above those originally imposed.

"Therefore, if China does not withdraw its 34% increase on their already long-standing trade abuses by tomorrow, April 8, 2025, the United States will impose an ADDITIONAL 50% Tariff on China, effective April 9. Furthermore, all talks with China regarding their requested meetings with us will be terminated! Negotiations with other countries, which have also requested meetings, will begin immediately. Thank you for your attention to this matter," Trump wrote in a post on his "Social Truth" platform.
