US President Donald Trump urged Americans to be "strong, brave and patient", minutes before the New York Stock Exchange opened with predictions of further sharp declines.

"The United States has a chance to do something that should have been done decades ago," Trump said, referring to his tariff reforms that have upended the global economy.

He further adds, “Don’t be weak! Don’t be stupid!… Be strong, courageous, and patient, and the result will be excellent!”
