Trump has set his own deadline for the future of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.

"As far as I'm concerned, if all the hostages are not returned by Saturday at 12 o'clock - I think that's a good time - I would say, cancel it and everything is null and void, let all hell break loose," he said from the Oval Office.

It is not clear whether Trump meant noon or midnight on Saturday. It is also not known which time zone he was referring to.

Trump added that he expects all hostages to be released, "not by drips and piecemeal."

Asked by the BBC if he was referring to an Israeli retaliation against Hamas when he said "all hell will break loose," Trump replied: "You'll find out, and they'll find out too. Hamas will find out what I mean."

Asked if the US would get involved, Trump said: "We'll see what happens." He also said that this was "just my deadline," and that he had not yet mentioned it to the Israeli prime minister.

Meanwhile, Jordan's King Abdullah II has arrived in Washington, D.C., and is scheduled to meet with Trump at the White House on Tuesday.

A reporter asked Trump in the Oval Office how he would convince the king to accept more Palestinians, which Trump has proposed as a possible solution.

“I think he will accept it, and I think other countries will accept it,” Trump said. “They have a good heart.”

Jordan and other countries in the region have rejected Trump's suggestion. Another reporter asked the president if he would cut off aid to Jordan and Egypt if they did not agree to accept Palestinians from Gaza. "Yeah, maybe, why not? If they don't, I could cut off aid - yes."
