US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that Israel would be the "leader" of a possible military strike against Iran if Tehran does not give up its nuclear weapons program.

Trump made the comments ahead of talks planned this weekend involving US and Iranian officials in the Middle Eastern sultanate of Oman.

Trump earlier this week said the talks would be "direct," while Iran has described the engagement as "indirect" talks with the US.

"If necessary, absolutely... If it requires military, we will have military," Trump said. "Israel will obviously be very involved in this. They will be the leader of this. But nobody leads us, but we do what we want to do," he said.

Trump said the US could not under any circumstances allow Iran to have nuclear weapons.

While talking about the capabilities of the US military, Trump said that his country possesses an extremely powerful secret weapon that no one knows anything about.
