Referring to Iran, US President Donald Trump, in his speech before Congress, stated that threats from the United States had contributed to the suppression of recent protests against him, but warned that the regime in Tehran continues to develop missile programs that, according to him, could hit American territory.
The statements come at a time when speculation has increased on the international scene about a possible US military action against Iran, while a significant American military presence has been deployed in the surrounding region.
"We are in negotiations with them. They want to make a deal, but we haven't heard those key words yet: 'We will never be equipped with nuclear weapons,'" Trump said.
He stressed that he prefers a diplomatic solution to the issue, but sent a firm message: "My choice is to solve this problem through diplomacy, but one thing is certain, I will never allow the number one sponsor of terrorism in the world to be equipped with nuclear weapons."
