A sports journalist has been found murdered and burned in an agricultural area in Eboli, near Salerno, in southern Italy. The victim has been identified as Luigi Esposito, 53, an employee of the Regional Environment Agency and a collaborator of several local media outlets.

The charred body was discovered by firefighters while extinguishing a bushfire. Initially, due to severe damage from the flames, identification was impossible. The investigation took a different direction after the victim's vehicle was found near the scene.

According to investigators, Esposito is suspected of being shot and then his body was set on fire. Carabinieri found several shell casings at the scene, while an autopsy is expected to determine the exact cause of death and the circumstances of the crime.

Luca Esposito was known in the world of sports as a contributor to the newspaper La Città di Salerno, the television Ottochannel and founder of the sports portal Tuttosalernitana.com. He had a degree in biology and a second degree in literature.

The Salerno Prosecutor's Office, under the direction of Raffaele Cantone, has launched investigations and is examining all leads to discover the perpetrators and motive for the murder.
