An unusual incident has shocked India, where a 32-year-old woman is suspected of orchestrating the murder of her husband using a highly venomous snake, with the aim of making the event look like a fatal accident.

The victim, 32-year-old Atul Kumar Panwar, owner of a private childcare centre in Meerut district, Uttar Pradesh state, was found dead on Friday morning in the apartment where he lived with his wife and their six-year-old son.

According to police investigations, his wife allegedly planned the crime together with the school bus driver, with whom authorities allege she had an extramarital affair.

Investigators believe the 32-year-old was initially given milk laced with sleeping pills. After he fell asleep, the perpetrators allegedly used a krait snake, one of Asia's most venomous species, to bite him while he slept. According to police, the intention was to make his death appear to be an accidental snake bite.

The next morning, the woman informed the neighbors that her husband had died from a snake bite. The reptile was found in bed next to the victim's body and killed by residents of the area. The 32-year-old's body had bite marks on his hand and foot, which initially led to the event being considered accidental.

The investigation took a different direction after the victim's father reported to the authorities that he suspected his daughter-in-law was involved in the murder.

During the investigation, police discovered that the bus driver had only been working at the family's school for three months and was suspected of having an extramarital affair with the victim's wife.

At the conclusion of the investigation, authorities arrested four people: the victim's wife, her suspected boyfriend, and two people involved in catching and treating snakes, who are accused of providing and using the poisonous reptile to carry out the plan.

The couple had married in 2019 and had opened a childcare center just three months earlier, where the bus driver also worked.

According to the district police chief, the evidence collected so far indicates that this was a premeditated murder, organized with the aim of disguising it as an accidental death from a snakebite.
