The testimony of the security chief for the nightclub where the tragedy occurred in Kocani has shed a lot of light on the incident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, which led to the deaths of 59 people and at least 155 others being seriously injured.
Blagojco Georgiev confessed that his people had been securing the club for 2 years, which according to him was lined on the inside with the cheapest possible material.
According to him, in two years of cooperation, he has noticed a number of irregularities, as well as the great greed of the club owner, whom he said he had warned about the problems, added to the fact that the business license was questionable.
"My soul aches, it's been two years since my people have been securing the discotheque. The boss is greedy, he loves money so much. I know that the entire interior is covered with the cheapest insulation, sponge! I was present while they were doing it! And now someone will accuse me of saying this? In the Kocani hospital alone, there are 63 people so far, children under 15, 16 years old," Georgiev said through tears.
He confessed that he called the club owner and informed him that there was a fire in the building.
"I called him, informed him that children under 15 were entering the disco, he said okay, allow it. Let them leave the money so we can earn it. Who gave permission to turn that shack into a disco? Who did the inspection? I'm talking about the system, not about individuals," he said.
At least 59 people died and more than 150 were injured in a fire at a nightclub in Kocani, North Macedonia.
The club, as it was later discovered, was operating under a forged license and the inspection found a number of serious security failures.
The club owner, who attempted to flee the country, was arrested along with 19 other people, including former government officials.
