A tragedy has occurred in Brazil, where more than 32 deaths and dozens of injuries are reported.

According to foreign media reports, a bus carrying 48 passengers collided with a truck, which then burst into flames. It is reported that more than 32 people have lost their lives as a result, but the exact number is not yet known.

"Around 32 to 35 people lost their lives, but it is not yet possible to determine the exact number of dead due to the condition of the burned bodies and they are unknown," a fire department spokesman said.

Work is also underway to determine the causes of the accident, and eyewitness statements are also being taken.

The fire service initially reported that the bus carrying 48 passengers had a flat tire, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle and collide with a flatbed truck at 4:00 a.m. local time on a main highway near the city of Teofilo Otoni in the state of Minas Gerais.

The fire service also said it rescued 13 passengers from the bus, three passengers from a car that was also involved in the collision and was trapped under the truck, but fortunately survived.

The dead included the bus driver and at least one child. However, eyewitnesses later said that according to firefighters, a large piece of granite fell from the truck onto the road and caused the collision with the bus.

The bus had left Sao Paulo and was headed to the state of Bahia.

"Firefighters have removed 22 bodies from the bus, while the other victims have not yet been removed," a firefighter said earlier.
