President-elect Donald Trump will be sworn in inside the Capitol on Monday, January 20, due to forecasts of extremely cold weather.

"According to the weather forecast for Washington, also affected by the wind, there will be temperatures at record low levels," Mr. Trump wrote in a post on the "Truth Social" platform.

"I don't want people to suffer any consequences in any way," President-elect Trump stressed.

During preparations, as an alternative for every inauguration, measures are always taken for the president-elect to take the oath indoors in case of bad weather.

The last time a president was sworn in indoors was 1985, when President Ronald Reagan began his second term.

Meanwhile, alternative plans are being considered for the more than 250,000 guests with tickets to watch the inauguration and the tens of thousands more who are expected to be on the road to attend the ceremony or watch the parade.

The National Weather Service predicts the temperature will be around minus 6 degrees Celsius at noon on January 20, when the swearing-in ceremony will take place.

In 1985, when President Reagan was sworn in for his second term, temperatures dropped to -14 degrees Celsius.

In 2009 when Barack Obama was sworn in, the temperature was -2 degrees Celsius.
