In fact, he didn't want to go at all, nor did he want to see the wreck of the Titanic.
But apparently out of love for his father, Suleman Dawood, 19, climbed aboard the small submarine that was supposed to take the two to the bottom of the Atlantic.
This is what his aunt said in an interview for the American broadcaster "NBC News".
Suleman told her he was "scared" and "not in the mood" for the trip to the Titanic.
But he wanted to make his father - Pakistani multi-millionaire Shahzada Dawood, 48 - happy for Father's Day.
The event took place in Great Britain, where the family lived, last Sunday, the day the submarine disappeared forever.

"I'm thinking about Suleman, who was 19 and maybe he was feeling scared," devastated aunt Azmeh Dawood continued, adding:
"I find it hard to breathe when I think about the incident. It was unlike any experience I've ever had."
'Absolutely obsessed' with Titanic
Her brother Shahzada was "absolutely obsessed" with the Titanic from a young age, she said.
As children, they constantly watched the movie "The Last Night of the Titanic".
Even when she introduced Shahzada to her husband, the Titanic played a role: her brother asked her husband if he would like to watch a four-hour documentary about the Titanic. He often visited exhibits with artifacts from the sinking of the Titanic.
That's why she wasn't surprised that her brother bought tickets for the submarine tour.
