A scandal has erupted across the ocean.
United States President Donald Trump 's top national security officials , including Vice President JD Vance and the Secretary of Defense, exchanged messages regarding military airstrikes in Yemen.
These conversations were made public by The Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffery Goldeberg, who had "mistakenly" introduced the group to the " Signal " app, where senior executives were discussing.
As we previously reported, conversations between senior officials in this group contained operational details about upcoming airstrikes against the Iran-backed Houthi group in Yemen, including data on targets, even the weapons the US would deploy, and the command of the strikes.
Among the messages reported by Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg is that US officials in the Signal chat had also discussed the possibility of Europe paying for US protection for key shipping lanes.
The message continued, saying that at Trump's request, his team was working with the Department of Defense and the State Department "to determine how to compile the associated costs and place them on the Europeans."
And in this conversation, a "coldness" and "dislike" for Europe emerged from Vice President JD Vance. It is alleged that the latter openly expressed in this group his lack of warmth for Europe.
The account called Vice President JD Vance wrote: " I just hate saving Europe again ."
But this fact is not that surprising since at the Munich Security Conference in February he launched an attack on European democracies.
Vance accused European governments of retreating from their values ??and said they are suppressing free speech and are the reason for mass migration.
The 20-minute speech was met with harsh criticism from Europe and was labeled "unacceptable" by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius. The EU's foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, characterized Vance as "trying to pick a war" with Europe.
What happened:
-The White House confirms that a journalist was inadvertently added to a group chat where senior US officials discussed plans for an attack against the Houthi rebel group.
-The Atlantic's editor-in-chief, Jeffrey Goldberg , says he received an invitation to the encrypted messaging app Signal from an account named White House National Security Advisor Michael Waltz.
-Officials apparently discussed Europe paying for US protection of key shipping lanes, with the account appearing to be Vice President JD Vance saying he hates to "save Europe again," while the account appearing to be Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth described the continent as " PATHETIC . "
-Hegseth , who allegedly shared details of planned military attacks in the chat group, tells reporters "no one was sending messages about war plans."
-US President Donald Trump says he "knows nothing" about the group chat.
