Ten explosions were heard near Srinagar International Airport in the Indian-administered parts of Kashmir, local officials said.
The explosions followed power outages caused by several shells, which were seen in the sky over the city of Jammu.
Explosions were also heard in the Sikh holy city of Amritsar, in the neighboring state of Punjab, according to Reuters.
An Indian military official told the agency that "drones have been seen" and "they are being used".
Today's event comes as tensions between India and Pakistan across the Line of Control around the Kashmir region have risen this week, leading to fears of a wider conflict.
On Wednesday morning, India carried out missile strikes on Pakistan and Pakistani-administered parts of the disputed region.
