European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stressed that the world order does not exist and will not return.
Regarding the war on Iran, he did not indicate whether it was right, but asked not to shed tears for a murderous regime.
Von der Leyen said that the time has come for the Western Balkans to be part of the EU now.
"Europe can no longer be a guardian of the old world order, because it is a world that has gone and will never return."
We will always defend and support the rules-based system that we helped build with our allies, but we can no longer rely on it as the only way to protect our interests.
You will hear different views on whether the conflict in Iran is a war of choice or a war of necessity.
But I believe that this debate partly misses the point, because Europe needs to focus on the reality of the situation, to see the world as it really is today.
And I want to be clear, there should be no tears shed for the Iranian regime. We should be prepared to project our power more decisively. Europe will always stand with Ukraine, no matter what is happening elsewhere.
There has been much debate about enlargement, about how we deliver on our commitments in a timely manner in its merit-based process. But it is of utmost importance that we prepare by bringing the Western Balkans, Moldova and Ukraine closer to our Union, now.
"Enlargement is not about ideology. It is a matter of common European interest and security. And we must be ready to fulfill the tasks as soon as the time comes."
