Russia tests new nuclear-powered missile, "Burevestnik" flew for 14

Amid clashes with the West to reach a peace deal in Ukraine, Russia has shown its "muscle" by testing a new nuclear-powered missile called the Burevestnik.

The test took place on October 21, and according to Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov, the missile covered 14,000 kilometers (8,700 miles) and stayed in flight for about 15 hours.

Russian President Vladimir Putin claims that the 9M730 Burevestnik (Storm Petrel), known by the NATO nickname SSC-X-9 Skyfall, is invincible against current and future missile defenses, with a nearly unlimited range and an unpredictable flight path.

This missile, "has no equal in the world," Putin said during a visit to the Joint Forces Command Post, according to TASS.

"I have an industry report and the Ministry of Defense's assessments are generally known. After all, it is a unique product, unlike any other in the world. I remember clearly when we announced that we were developing such a weapon. Even qualified specialists told me that, yes, it was a valid and worthy goal, but unattainable in the foreseeable future. This was the opinion of qualified specialists, I repeat," he said.
