Albin Kurti

Today at 10:00, a session will be held in the Kosovo Assembly with the only item on the agenda, the election of the Government. Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti will present the composition of the government and it is expected to be seen whether he will receive the 61 votes necessary to form the new executive.

In the event of failure to form a government, Albin Kurti will become the first candidate to fail to form a new government, as in all other processes for forming a government, candidates have been elected by a majority of votes the first time.

Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has stated that if there is no agreement on the formation of the new Kosovo Government in today's session, then she will invite the parties to see if any can secure the necessary 61 votes. Osmani has mandated the leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, to form the Government, after his party won the February 9 elections.

According to the Constitution, if Kurti fails to form the Government, then Osmani has the duty within ten days to invite the parties for consultations and decide on the prime minister who has the greatest chances of forming the Government.

If the Government cannot be formed even after the second attempt, President Osmani, according to the Constitution, must announce new elections, which must be held within 40 days.
