Revolt against Donald Trump: Opposes war with Iran, director of the US National

The director of the National Counterterrorism Center, Joe Kent, has resigned, openly opposing the United States' war with Iran.

In a statement published on the social network X, Kent said he could not support the current conflict.

"I cannot in good conscience support the war in Iran. Iran did not pose an immediate threat to our country," he declared, adding that according to him the war was started "due to pressure from Israel and its lobbies in the US."

The National Counterterrorism Center is a key institution that oversees US intelligence on terrorist threats and manages databases of individuals suspected of terrorism.

Kent, a former special forces soldier and longtime supporter of Donald Trump, has also sent a letter to the US president stating that he had supported him during his first term, but that this time he has been wrongly influenced by Israel.

He stressed that he could not support sending a new generation of Americans to a war "that does not serve the interests of the American people and does not justify the loss of lives."

Kent served 20 years in the U.S. Army Special Forces, participating in 11 combat missions, and later worked for the CIA. He was also a political ally of Tulsi Gabbard, who has kept a low profile since the start of the war and has previously criticized U.S. military interventions abroad.

His resignation comes at a time of high international tensions and reflects divisions within the US administration over involvement in the conflict with Iran.
