The European Union is following the issue of the treatment of Albanians in the Presevo Valley and expects Serbia to comply with international standards in this regard, said the President of the Council of Europe, Antonio Costa .

In a response to Albanian MP in the Serbian Parliament, Shaip Kamberi , Costa added that the issue of minorities in Serbia plays a role in Serbia's EU membership process.

"Rest assured that the EU is monitoring the treatment of national minorities, including the Albanian community in Serbia. This is important in terms of Serbia's commitments in its EU accession process. Serbia is expected to coordinate the legal framework in line with minority rights according to international and European standards," Costa's office said in a response, published by Kamberi himself.

Regarding the issue of addresses, Costa said that the EU will continue to urge Serbian authorities to provide clear explanations to the public on how checks on residence status are carried out.
