President Joe Biden condemned the attempted assassination attempt on his Republican opponent Donald Trump on Sunday. He said he was relieved that Trump's health was improving after the injuries suffered in Saturday's attack.
In his statement from the White House, the president said he would address the American people on Sunday night on the need to be united. He said he has ordered an independent investigation into what happened during Trump's election rally in Pennsylvania.
"There is no place in the United States for violence, for any form of violence. "The attempted assassination is against every principle we defend as a nation," he said.
Biden made his remarks at the White House after being briefed on the results so far on the investigation into the incident. He said he had asked for the investigation to be "thorough and prompt" and asked that no "assumptions be made" about the cause of the incident, but that everything be left to the authorities. /Voa
