Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has reacted strongly on social media to the general secretary of the CGIL union, Maurizio Landini , after the latter called her a "courtesan" during a television interview.

"If anyone doesn't know the most common meaning of the word 'courtesan', I'll share it: it means prostitute. Landini, blinded by a rage that I can understand, calls me that in public. This is the left that moralized us for decades about respect for women and that today insults me for lack of arguments ,"  Meloni writes  in her post.

In her reaction, the Prime Minister adds that she also published the official dictionary definition of the word: " A woman with loose habits; a prostitute ."

On the other hand, Maurizio Landini denies that he used sexist language.

" There is no insult or personal grudge. In that 10-minute interview, which can be reviewed by anyone, I immediately clarified that with that word I was referring to Meloni's political stance. I said that he followed Trump, was close to him, like a kind of purser. It was a political judgment, not a personal one," Landini said in a press statement .
