Efforts to end war: US-Iran meeting could happen this week

Representatives of the United States and Iran could hold a meeting within days, according to a report by Axios citing Israeli sources.

According to journalist Barak Ravid, the likely venue for the meeting is Islamabad, while intermediary countries are working to organize it.

The report notes that the US side is expected to be represented by special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, as well as possibly Vice President JD Vance. The Iranian side is expected to be represented by the speaker of parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and other officials.

The source cited by Axios has said that the meeting could take place later this week.

Earlier in the day, President Donald Trump stated that Iran is ready for a deal and that it could be reached within five days or even sooner.

He added that contacts between the parties have been "very productive and constructive," leading to the postponement of attacks on Iran's energy infrastructure.

However, Iranian media have denied these claims, stating that there have been no talks with Washington and suggesting that Trump's statements are intended to buy time while efforts to reduce tensions continue in the region.
