A doctor from Thessaloniki is among the 9 arrested for the drug network that received a serious blow after an ELAS operation, where 100 kilograms of cocaine were seized.

According to the information reported by the Greek media, in addition to the doctor, who is considered to be the head of the organization, his relatives have also been arrested, where MEGA reports that among them are the son and grandson.

The arrested doctor has a "file" on ELAS, having been arrested in January 2004 and sentenced to 15 years in prison for forgery, complicity in a false certificate and bribery in the case of the fictitious export of 158 cargoes of fuel to Bulgaria in 1994, however a few months later he was released.

In March 2005, the doctor was arrested again after he and his brother were accused of smuggling cigarettes, about 150 million packs worth 80 million euros.

The arrest of the doctor and eight others was made after an operation by the Anti-Drug Agency, with the assistance of OPKE police officers, in Diavata, when the rented cars used to take 100 kg of cocaine from a container at the port were stopped of Thessaloniki.

The container with cocaine came with a transporter from Latin America, confirming once again that the cartels have "eyeballed" the ports of Athens and Thessaloniki to use them as a staging ground for the drugs they want to traffic to European countries.

But this time, the police who planned the operation chose not to open the container, but using the information they had, proceeded to arrest the recipients of the cocaine, thus opening a new cycle of a major investigation in the field of the fight against drug trafficking. drugs.
