After Romania reported that a Russian drone entered its airspace and was searching for fragments on its territory, NATO ally Latvia has done the same.

"On September 7, a Russian drone was downed in the Rezekne region," the Latvian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

"He entered our airspace from Belarus," the statement added.

The National Armed Forces are acting in accordance with procedures, including informing NATO command.

Latvia has been a staunch supporter of Ukraine since the Russian invasion in February 2022 – with President Volodymyr Zelensky keen to stress that, if his country falls, countries such as Moldova, Estonia and Latvia would be at risk from further Russian expansion efforts.
