Dick Cheney, the former US vice-president considered to be a 'republican for life', has publicly confirmed that he will vote for Democrat Kamala Harris in the November presidential elections.
One of the most influential figures during George W Bush's presidency released a statement saying that "there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to the Republic than Donald Trump".
His daughter, former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney, told an audience in Texas recently that her father planned to support the Democratic candidate.
"He tried to steal the last election by using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him. He can never be trusted with power again. As citizens, each of us has a duty to put country above partisanship to protect our constitution. That's why I'm going to cast my vote for Vice President Kamala Harris."
Cheney's statements were welcomed by the Harris camp. While Trump called the former vice president an "insignificant man" and "Republican in name only".
Trump accused Cheney of being the "King of Endless and Senseless Wars" alluding to his role in the Iraq War.
