German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said he was "horrified" by propaganda videos released by Hamas showing two Israeli hostages.
In an interview with Bild newspaper, Merz argued that the images of weakened hostages Ram Braslavski, a German-Israeli citizen, and Evyatar David, "prove that Hamas should no longer play a role in Gaza's future".
Merz then called on Israel not to "respond to Hamas' cynicism" by cutting off humanitarian aid to the territory, where UN-appointed experts have warned of an ongoing famine.
