French President Emmanuel Macron has stated that he intends to leave politics in 2027, at the end of his second five-year term.

During a visit to Cyprus, he stated that "I was not in politics before and I will not be after it either," implying that he does not plan to continue political activity after the presidency.

Macron added that at this stage of his term, the biggest challenge is to maintain the balance between defending his achievements and acknowledging those that "have not worked."

Meanwhile, discussion has already begun in France about the 2027 presidential election. Potential candidates from the left, center, and far right are preparing for the race, while trying to create a more appealing image for the public.

Experts believe that Macron's statement may be part of a political strategy, to build the narrative of his legacy and leave space for the successor of his political camp.

But no political decision can be considered final.

The weekly magazine Le Point relaunched a rumor circulating in Parisian corridors, according to which former Macronist prime minister Jean Castex, now president of French railways SNCF, could run in 2027 to ensure continuity with Macron's political line, who could then run again in 2032. A fantasy-political scenario, of course, but not so absurd as not to be considered by the French media.

However, Macron remains active on the international stage, where he continues to have a prominent role in global issues such as relations with the US, the war in Ukraine, and European politics.
