An American who has decided to stay as hundreds of thousands of others are quickly fleeing Hurricane Milton has become a sensation on social networks.

Terrence Concannon, a young man from Florida has documented the life of Joe, also known as "Lieutenant Dan" due to his resemblance to the character of the film Forest Gump, gathering millions of views on TikTok, as he refused to leave saying that he would to stay on his boat, off the coast of Florida.

Terrence himself tried to convince Joe to leave, but he refused, as did the police force. Joe has previously survived Hurricane Helene.

"The water will come in, it will rise. If you are on land, it will flood. You risk drowning. I'm on a boat, so the boat goes up with the water ... it's really the safest place to be, on my boat,” Joe said.

In another video he says God told him to get a boat and live in it. "He protects me. I'm in good shape. I'm not sweating," he added.

Hurricane Milton is considered one of the most dangerous storms of the last century, with winds of up to 230 kilometers per hour and rainfall expected to cause catastrophic flooding.
