Attacks by Russian forces in Odessa and other targets in southern Ukraine in recent days have led Kivei to conclude that Moscow intends to control entry into the Black Sea.

To achieve its goal of controlling the Black Sea, Russia will need to enter Moldova, Ukrainian officials say.

Ukrainian military sources, quoted by the Times of London, expressed confidence that the Kremlin has already decided to attack Moldova and that there are many indications "that such an attack would happen soon."

These developments forced the Moldovan government to abandon neutrality, condemn the Russian occupation and take the side of the West, thus seeking support against Russian aggression.

However the country's defense capability is small, as the Moldovan army is estimated to have just over 3,000 soldiers.
