US President Donald Trump has announced that Israel and Lebanon have reached an agreement for a 10-day ceasefire, which is expected to take effect at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time (EST).
The statement was published by the head of the White House himself on the Truth Social platform and is presented as the result of diplomatic efforts mediated by the United States.
According to Trump, this development comes after talks held in Washington, DC, where for the first time in 34 years, representatives of Israel and Lebanon sat at the same negotiating table.
He said that these meetings have been intense and led by senior American officials, with the aim of reducing tensions and creating a direct communication channel between the parties.
The mediation process, according to him, also involved Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Vice President JD Vance, as well as other structures of the US administration that have coordinated diplomatic and security contacts. Trump emphasized that the goal of these efforts is not only to temporarily stop the conflict, but also to pave the way for a broader peace agreement.
He added that the 10-day ceasefire should serve as a testing period for the parties' willingness to reduce hostilities and avoid further military escalation.
According to him, during this time, negotiations will continue to reach a more stable and long-term agreement that can guarantee stability in the region.
Trump also stated that the United States will continue to be directly involved in the process, coordinating communication between the parties and monitoring the implementation of the ceasefire. He presented the agreement as part of a series of international diplomatic interventions and said he believes it could be an important step towards reducing conflicts in the Middle East.
At the end of his statement, he expressed optimism that this initiative could turn into a lasting peace agreement and that his administration would continue to work to resolve international conflicts through diplomacy and mediation.
