Following the tragic event that occurred last night, President Donald Trump gave an interview to Fox News.
Trump was asked about his decision that, even after the event, he wanted to continue the evening. He expressed his desire to continue the event, but said that security procedures made it impossible for him to do so.
"I hate that kind of person," Trump said, calling the attacker a "crazy individual" who did not deserve to have an impact on the planned event. Trump stressed that while he had wanted to go ahead with the event, security protocols prevented him from doing so.
The White House chief of staff stressed that such events are difficult to manage in large hotels, such as the Hilton, and he reiterated the need for a secure room at the White House.
Trump also reiterated his stance on the need to build a new ballroom at the White House, stating that the project is moving ahead of schedule and within budget.
When asked about the impact this event could have on approving funding for the Department of Homeland Security, Trump did not answer directly, but instead went on to praise police agents.
He also called the attacker "a sick man" and "a very disturbed man" who "hates Christians."
Trump praised the Secret Service and all law enforcement agencies for their swift and accurate action, saying the assailant "jumped like an NFL player" but they "stopped him right away."
He assured that the attacker did not have the opportunity to approach high-ranking political figures and that the situation was successfully managed.
