The exiled Gaza leader, Khalil Al-Hayya, said this Thursday that the group has received assurances from the United States, Arab mediators and Turkey that the war in Gaza is over.

"The permanent ceasefire began today. All women and children detained in Israel will be released. The door to prosperity will be opened," Hamas declared in a statement to the media.

The security cabinet meeting to approve a ceasefire and the release of hostages as part of the US plan to end the war in Gaza has concluded, according to information provided to The Times of Israel by the office of one of the participants.

The cabinet will now meet as a whole to vote on the deal, which is expected to be approved by a large majority.

"Today we announce that an agreement has been reached to end the war and aggression against our people and to begin implementing a permanent ceasefire and the withdrawal of the occupying forces," Khalil Al Hayya said in a televised speech.

He added that 250 Palestinians who were sentenced to life imprisonment will be released as part of the deal, in addition to 1,700 prisoners from Gaza who were arrested after October 7.

In a rare interview with Channel 12, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said the Palestinian Authority is coordinating with the United States on reforms it is implementing under the Gaza ceasefire agreement, which calls on the organization to implement significant changes.

He added that international pressure to recognize a Palestinian state is not intended to harm Israel.
