Djukanovic threatens Abazovic: We will overthrow him if he signed the agreement

Montenegrin President Milo Djukanovic has openly warned Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic that his minority government will be overthrown if the latter signs the Basic Agreement with the Serbian Orthodox Church.

Speaking about the text of the agreement, Gjukanovic said that it contains parts that "falsify the history of Montenegro", and this is considered intolerable.

The agreement, according to Djukanovic, could be accepted if there were no interpretations of history. But in its current form, it does not find the support of his party. In an interview given to N1, Gjukanovic said that if the agreement is implemented, Abazovic will begin the overthrow of the Government this Sunday.

"Abazovic suddenly decided to reformulate the priorities of the government's agenda, so that instead of fulfilling chapters 23 and 24 of the negotiations, he prioritized the signing of contracts on issues of common interest to the Government of Montenegro and Serbian Church.

He decided not to accept a more comprehensive process before the government made a decision. Everything that has been done in that plan has been done very clumsily. There was not even the constitution of a team of experts to take responsibility to help the Government assess whether everything written in the contract is really in line with the interests of Montenegro." -  stated Djukanovic.

The Montenegrin government approved the Basic Agreement in the first week of July, which purports to regulate relations between Montenegro and the Serbian Orthodox Church, but with this move, Abazović lost the support of the majority.
