The German economy suffers from a labor shortage. The criticisms of the heads of the German economy are related to the complicated administrative procedures and the attitude of the visa authorities.
Due to the significant labor shortage, the main heads of the German economy are calling for the easing of migration rules. "We in Germany have great difficulties in expanding enterprises, because there is simply a lack of manpower", said the president of DIHK, the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Peter Adrian for the German news agency, dpa.
Even the General Secretary of the Central Association of German Crafts, Holger Schwannecke, has pointed out to dpa that currently there are about 250,000 unfilled jobs in the branch of German craftsmen. "We urgently need skilled manpower. And we must do this through further qualification in the country and recruitment of all internal potentials, but also through the inflow of manpower from abroad." Very little is done in this regard.
The head of DIHK, Adrian has criticized the obstacles faced by qualified forces from abroad. "What is needed is an uncomplicated procedure of consulates and representations abroad. "This is failing at the moment simply by the structures of the administration," said Adrian. Even Schwannecke criticizes the long procedures for granting visas, "the consulates are overloaded." Many things still are done by hand, not digitally and it is not fruitful that we still "don't have a welcoming culture for the skilled workforce".
Peter Adrian recounts a case of how he got a worker from Morocco for his venture with the help of the Chamber of Foreign Trade. "This lasted 10 months. And everyone even congratulated me, because it was done so quickly. There are cases where the procedures last two or three years. This is not only related to the procedures that are out of date, but also to the attitude of the authorities in the country ." Too often the concepts of service and service delivery orientation are unknown, criticized Adrian. /DW
