The government of North Macedonia imposed a state of emergency in the capital Skopje and three other cities in order to protect citizens from very high levels of air pollution, AP reported.
No sporting events took place today and will not be held as long as pollution levels are high and outdoor activities are suspended.
Starting tomorrow, work will be limited to six hours, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The government has recommended to companies that pregnant women and people over 60 years of age take time off for as long as the pollution lasts.
The government will cut the use of its vehicles in half, and health officials must try to find housing for the homeless and increase home visits by doctors for the chronically ill.
