Invitation to Trump's visit to Britain 'confuses' Starmer with
Donald Trump

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has decided to accelerate US President Donald Trump 's state visit to the United Kingdom, going against King Charles' initial wishes for a more cautious and informal approach.

According to sources at The Times, the king had initially suggested a simpler meeting.

This is to avoid tensions, especially due to Trump's provocative statements towards Canada, a country where Charles is also the head of state.

But Starmer has chosen to go on a visit with all due respect, in an attempt to build closer relations with the American president.

The letter the king had sent to Trump for an informal meeting was made public by Starmer at the White House, raising expectations for a quick official visit.

This move has been described as a 'confusion' by sources close to the Royal Palace.

Despite the palace's concerns, Trump's visit to Britain is expected to take place in September in Windsor.

Meanwhile, during a visit to Canada last month, King Charles stressed the country's sovereignty and unique identity, in a clear message to Trump's comments that he has considered the '51st state' of the US.

The King's invitation was written to be delivered privately, along with a condition that Trump stop talking about Canada as the '51st state' of the US.

But as The Times writes, Starmer has refused to say whether he has privately asked Trump to tone down his rhetoric towards Canada.
