How can major global events be predicted by ordering pizza? There seems to be a theory for this too, and unlike other theories, this one has proven successful in some predictions.

The "Pizza Index" is a theory in the United States that predicts that major developments will occur in the world, mostly within 24 hours, and generally related to war.

This is calculated based on the frequency of late-night food orders, particularly pizza, by government personnel, primarily those at the Pentagon and the White House. The theory states that such increases occur when officials anticipate important events such as military action, requiring them to stay on the job for extended hours.

This phenomenon was first observed during the 1991 Gulf War and has been observed during various international crises since then.

The main assumption is that government employees, when faced with urgent situations, order food from nearby establishments, leading to a noticeable increase in activity at these businesses. Tools like Google Maps can track these anomalies in real time, providing a snapshot of the operational pace of government agencies. While some analysts see this as a reliable early warning system, others caution against over-interpretation, suggesting that such patterns may be random or influenced by external factors.

Recently, the Pizza Index has gained new attention amid rising tensions between Israel and Iran.

Reports indicate that on the night of Israel’s surprise attack on Iran, which included strikes on nuclear facilities and assassinations of military leaders, there was a significant spike in pizza orders at the District Pizza Palace, located near the Pentagon. This spike was observed approximately an hour before the attack began, leading some to draw a parallel with past instances where increased food orders preceded major geopolitical events.

The US Department of Defense has downplayed the theory, stating that employees have access to internal food options and emphasizing the need for detailed analysis to separate real signals from noise.

Even in the last 24 hours, as US President Donald Trump warned Iranians to evacuate Tehran and left the G7 meeting early, ordering staff to gather in the "War Room", pizza orders from pizzerias near the Pentagon and the White House have reached peaks.
