Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan this Thursday had a telephone conversation with Pope Francis, during which he called the international community's indifference to what is happening in Gaza "a shame for humanity".

The call between them comes just 24 hours after the attack launched by the Turkish president against Israel and the expression of Turkish support for Hamas, which he considered "a group of liberators and not a terrorist organization".

According to Turkish media, Erdogan communicated to the Holy Father that Israel's attacks in Gaza have reached "the levels of a massacre".

The Turkish Presidency notes that Erdogan told the Pope that the Israeli raids "find no place in any holy text", and requested that all countries raise their voices against this human tragedy.

"Permanent peace in the region, in which the holy seats of three monotheistic religions are located, will be possible only with the establishment of an independent, sovereign and geographically State of Palestine on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. her", said Erdogan in the phone call with the Pope.

He also said that Turkey "is making great efforts to provide humanitarian and medical aid to Gaza and that everyone should actively support these efforts to ensure the unimpeded delivery of aid to innocent civilians".
