Vangjelis Zabunis, 44, a well-known member of the Greek mafia, was executed last night on "Ilia Iliu" street in the center of Athens.
According to the first information, at least 80-90 bullets were fired at the victim, leaving him dead on the spot.
A few minutes later, at the exit of Athens, in the place called Hajdari, the perpetrators' vehicle was also found, an off-roader which turns out to be rented. Inside the car were also found 2 Kalashnikovs and at least 1 pistol, weapons used during the attack on Zubuni.
The victim was one of the most important exponents of the Greek mafia. 4 years ago, he escaped an assassination attempt where he was seriously injured, but luckily the perpetrator's weapon was jammed and he could not deliver the final blow. It seems that this time the perpetrators were determined not to make a mistake and used at least 3 weapons.
Zubunis was arrested several times and was on the top list of suspects for several attacks on other gangs. He was also involved in smuggling fuel and alcoholic beverages as well as fines.
The police say that the execution of Vagjeli Zubunis was a paid murder. Authorities add it to the long list of executions that have taken place in recent years in the relentless war between Greek mafia gangs. Many Albanian citizens are also members of these gangs, who often undertake executions and blackmails against businesses in order to get money from them.
